Sunset

Caribbean sunsets - one of the many reasons I can't help but fall in love with this place. I thought I would be counting down the days until I left but now it feels like this is where I'm supposed to be right now. I've built great relationships here and I'm excited to be learning about things that will actually matter in my career. #happyblogging

Church

Image
I am updating this mostly for Miche and Dad today! I went to the local Catholic church this morning. I was encouraged to go by a friend and I thought it would be a good idea to give thanks for all the positive things in my life right now. There were probably around 80 people there which I thought was quite a few for such a small village considering there are 8 churches (I think) on the island and the population is under 2000. Plus there are so many Muslim and Jewish students here who do their own worship activities. It was a beautiful little church and a kind old lady made sure I had a book of hymns. Most things were the same but one thing that threw me off was this hand holding and singing thing. I'll get it next time though.

March activities

Every 3 weeks we have a few days to do activities while we are still at the beginning of a new block. This time, we went swimming/snorkeling down at Fort Bay, out for supper at Saba Snack for Craig's birthday, baked a cake and had a BBQ for Melissa's birthday, and went for a hike. I was nervous to do this hike - Great Hill we believe it's called - because it involved actual climbing of rocks instead of just walking up a hill/stairs. But it turned out to be something pretty special with an unreal view of the island. I only wish the pictures did it justice. There were also caves to explore on the mountain which was pretty cool. Hard to believe there are only 5 weeks of classes left. Time has gone by much faster than I expected. This is Iggy. He hangs out on the tree outside my building sometimes. I love him. Also, I chased him for this picture. (I know my mother will not be surprised at this)   Down by the bay...   My roomies next semester!  Huge fis

Lobster

Pleased to report that Block III was the best yet. I did well enough to make up for some underwhelming performances earlier in the semester. And now I am more motivated than ever.   I got mail from Ashley, Andrew, and Paulette this week so that was an awesome surprise! The cards were a great pick-me-up the morning of exams.   We went snorkeling after blocks on Tuesday and got the chance to swim with a large school of some pretty amazing fish that were all 3 to 4 feet long. They are called tarpon for anyone who knows anything about fish (or just google it).   Didn't stray too far from my roots on this one though... This is what a lobster from the caribbean looks like. (note the absence of claws) It was delicious too.     More to come after Sara adds her pictures to facebook and I steal them :)
