GIRLS NIGHT

Image
So block 3 is finally over. It has been a struggle from the first week when I decided to come off my pain medication post-concussion and it just got worse with the nature of the material we are learning and not being presented the material in a way that’s easy to learn (in my opinion). We ended up with one failing class average and 2 right on the border of a pass. I ended up doing not-so-bad after a very generous bell curve, but it doesn’t erase the frustration of the exam itself. To get some time away and relax, we had a girls night! It was especially exciting for me because I live with boys and, although I love them dearly, they look at me funny when I talk about clothes/shoes/gossip in general. We went up to Shearwater for supper and drinks and took pictures by the pool. It is beautiful there – it is literally on the edge of a cliff with an amazing view of the ocean. Thanks to Chelsea for organizing!

Eid Mubarak

This week, I attended an event for Eid which is a Muslim holiday which marks the end of the pilgrimage. There was a presentation with these 4 amazing speakers who taught about the Muslim religion and Eid itself. Then there was a dinner where the idea is for them to feed the community. I'll admit that, during the presentation, I was surprised to find out how very similar it is to Christianity. They discussed the same stories and it was all about doing good to God, our fellow human beings, and the environment. They also did a “Frequently Asked Questions” section where they debunked some of the rumors that you see in the media. My friend, Natasha, was kind enough to talk us through her experience as a Muslim and her roots in Pakistan. There was a great turnout of students, profs, and people from the community – a few hundred people at least. The dinner was awesome. I had the mushroom chicken, rice, lasagna, salad, and dessert. My mentor, Sana, made a cheesecake and Natasha made c

Today I am thankful for my family, my Saba family, friends (new and old), health, happiness, and amazing opportunities. Missing everyone back home though and wishing I was having turkey dinner at Maman's.   Yesterday, we celebrated the 23rd birthday of our Newfie Sara! We took the afternoon off and went to Tropic's to sit by the pool and soak up the sun and drink Pina Coladas. Then we went to supper at Seawitch and ate cupcakes with fireworks in them. It was our first real time off in 6 weeks so we were extra excited not to be studying.   Tropics Not quite ripe yet About to have some lunch I got the coconut shrimp wrap... yum.
